Chalk Table DIY

I got tired of telling my kids not to write on their table and to keep to the paper. Instead of finding ways to get them to stop writing on the table, I found a way to be OK with it- by chalkorizing it.

I used painter's tape to cover the parts I did not want to get paint on, and painted away. In hindsight, I should have used a sponge instead of a brush to get a more smooth finish. But I got the effect I was going for. I used Folk Art paint, which you can get at a KMart or a WalMart near you. I got a 8ft. oz. container and used less than 1/10th of the paint. If you want a different color, you can make your own, all you need is 2 tbsp of non sanded grout, 1 cup of latex paint in any color you want. Mix it well and start painting. Let the paint dry for about 12 hours. The last step is to actually use a chalk over the entire surface to activate the paint.

When the kids woke up and saw the table, they were so excited, getting dressed for the day had to wait. And now that I got the hang of it, I think I'll be chalkorizing a lot more around the house.
Any cute ideas on how to use chalk paint? I you love to hear if you have used it in your house.

Mother's Day

I am so blessed. I had a great Mother's Day. I got a card from each kid and from my husband and a bunch of things from my wish list.

I got beautiful cards from the kids and my hubby with a Starbucks gift card in it. I got a book I wanted and a 31 bag with cool pockets, I'm using it for our travel DVD player. I got the bag I wanted (the smaller version) and two CD's to listen to in my car and the aprons I wanted.
My husband, Aaron, wanted to take me out to dinner, but I didn't feel like going to a crowded restaurant and wait an hour for a table. So Aaron had a brilliant idea- we went to the Kroger market place, each of us got something we like and we ate at the Starbucks area. I had a Starbucks drink and sushi, while that boys had pizza and Charisma picked through everyone Else's food. We had a great time, ate what we liked without having and enjoyed a non crowded place.
And Charisma got to sport her new shades.
How was your mothers day? Any surprises anyone?

Craft Round Up- Mother's Day Edition (This is for you Dads!)

I love giving and receiving and made things. I think it makes it so much more special, not to mention the hand made means "one of a kind". Here is to show that hand made gifts can be beautiful.

If you have a little one, that can't be very involved in the gift making, coupons are a great idea.
